Giro d'Italia (st. 1)

Visconti, Intxausti and Bruseghin make first third of the classification in the time trial opening the Giro in Herning, a prelude of two nervous stages on Danish soil

Movistar Team accomplished their expectations during the opening 8,700 meters of the 95th Giro d’Italia, an individual time trial in the Danish city of Herning -over dry terrain, yet with strong winds- where American Taylor Phinney (BMC) made pronostics count to take a convincing win and conquer the first maglia rosa.

The squad directed by José Luis Jaimerena had Italian road champion Giovanni Visconti as their best performer, with a 11.07 that put him, even 41 seconds slower than the unstoppable winner of the day, within the first line of favourites alongside a great Beñat Intxausti and also-Italian Marzio Bruseghin, all of them into the best 50 of the ITT.

With the hectic start done and dusted, the race will head now into two dangerous stages due to the wind and tension en route to two predictable sprint finishes in Herning (Sunday) and Horsens (Monday), where Fran Ventoso will try to get to the fore as he awaits for better-suiting rushes back on Italian turf.
