09 May 2012

Giro d'Italia (st. 4)

Excellent performance from Blues, taking eight riders together to the finish, leaves them 32 seconds from the winners and just ten from the day's top-3

Movistar Team completed a great stage today during the team time trial of the 95th Giro d’Italia held over 33 kilometers in and around the city of Verona. The Blue squad concluded their performance in the eleventh spot of the day, just 32 seconds behind the day’s winners Garmin. The telephone squad, coming across the finish with eight riders -only Fran Ventoso was dropped into the final part of the route- came only ten seconds short for the third place in the leaderboard, proving the consistent riding by the Spanish team.

This way, Movistar Team get stronger from the first, most difficult part of the race for them, with the trio of stages through Denmark and the team time trial, and keep their chances in the overall classification alive as all their contesting riders are within a minute of the maglia rosa now worn by Lithuanian Ramunas Navardauskas (GRM). At the expense of the mountains to come, with the first climbs on Friday preceeding the mountain-top finish on Saturday, the Giro will head into a day for sprinters on Thursday: 209 kilometers from Modena to Fano.
