Costa Rican rider from Movistar Team suffers injuries in his right arm and hand after falling during final descent at Gran Piemonte while searching for race lead

Misfortune stroke Movistar Team at the 98th Gran Piemonte, an Hors Categorie, Europe Tour race held on Thursday over 188 kilometers between Fossano and Biella. Andrey Amador suffered a serious crash at the final descent of the Favaro, crucial point of the final circuit (two laps) with its top located just 8k from the finish, while pursuing the race’s leaders along with team-mates Giovanni Visconti and Nairo Quintana.

The hit sustained forced the Costa Rican to abandon as he was led to the Hospital di Biella, where the needed checks revealed a fracture in his right arm radius, the third metacarpus in his hand and a dislocated point finger, heading back to Movistar Team’s hotel just after 9pm. The Blues’ hopes to obtain a good result -Visconti was the top Movistar Team performer in 9th spot were thus ruined at a race counting as the appetizer of Saturday’s big event Il Lombardia (251km; 10.35 CET).
