Volta ao Algarve (st. 2)

Young Spaniard places 4th at mass sprint in Lagoa, leads Movistar Team as Blues get in good mood in view of decisive weekend in Algarve

Not a real contender at mass sprints since he turned pro, Jesús Herrada became the best Movistar Team performer today on stage two of the Volta ao Algarve, held over 195km around Lagoa with two different parts: a ride through the mountains in the first half of the race, with two categorized climbs, and a ride near the coast in the final part. The Mota del Cuervo-based rider claimed the 4th spot of the day, only behind Bos (BLA), Nizzolo (RLT) and Sancho (CAR), after another calm day for the squad directed in Portuguese soil by José Luis Jaimerena.

14 seconds behind Bos, the new leader of the race, lie all telephone squad’s riders in the eve of the first of two decisive days in the race: the climb towards the Alto do Malhao on Saturday, after 193km and two other major cols from the start in Portimao, and Sunday’s 34km ITT between Castro Marim and Tavira.
