Tour de Pologne (st. 7)

Capecchi ends Tour de Pologne in 6th place, signs best performance as a Movistar Team after fine TT towards Kraków. Wiggins (SKY) takes stage; Weening (OGE) conquers overall

The final, 37-kilometer individual time trial from Wielicza to the Market Square in Kraków awarded Dutchman Pieter Weening (OGE) the overall victory in the 2013 Tour de Pologne, a race where Movistar Team offered details of quality in the build-up for the Vuelta a España, despite not being able to snatch a stage victory. Eros Capecchi crowned today a great race all week and clocked the 15th fastest time of the day, with Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins (SKY) winning by almost one minute over Fabian Cancellara (RLT).

The telephone squad’s rider did a great first part of the race, climbing up two places in the GC, and kept the pace in the second half, flatter and less favourable for his characteristics, ending up in 6th, tied with Colombian Sergio Henao (SKY). The day’s negative sidenote came from Javi Moreno, forced to abandon with just 100m covered due to a mechanical incident, with no race organisation cars present to assist the Andalusian as initially offered.
