Tour du Limousin (st. 1)

Spanish champion present in first of two relevant breaks at Limousin's opening stage. Elmiger (IAM) becomes race leader.

Swiss rider Martin Elmiger (IAM) is the first leader of the 46th Tour du Limousin (UCI 1.1) after outsprinting a 12-man elite group in the end of the 168 kilometers of stage one from Limoges to Rochechouart. The attempt was the decisive move for the day’s result, the group reaching more than a minute’s advantage over the bunch with ten kilometers from the finish, with Movistar Team unable to put one of its riders into the attack after setting Jesús Herrada up for the day’s early break.

The squad directed by José Luis Jaimerena on French soil will now have to switch its goals towards the fight for the stage wins, with lumpy roads favouring the Blues in the three remaining days starting from Wednesday -186km between Rochechouart and Ambazac.-
