To the Top (5): Alex’s breakthrough
07 November 2013

2013 Overview

A true powerhouse, a wonderful personal. Dowsett joined the Movistar Team amid doubts from fans and press, and completed his first season in Blue with a stage win in his first-ever GT and the third consecutive British ITT title

The Essex boy, turned 25 in October, earned respect once again from his rivals in the peloton this year, and also brought his kind character and his great spirit to a successful team which is proud to have him on its ranks. The long, 54-kilometer individual time trial in Saltara during this year’s Giro was his breakthrough: a hard test, with three infamous kilometers of climbing after more than an hour’s effort on the flat, the Briton beating Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins for the win. The icing on the cake came a month and a half later: his third British iTT title, getting over a crash midway into the competition. Clase, hard work, professionality all coming together to make him become one of the Movistar Team’s references on the road.
