2013 Overview

Getting so close to a top-ten overall finish in the Vuelta after such a brilliant domestique work is only at reach of the likes of José Herrada

After adapting himself to the duties of a WorldTour team in 2012, the man from Mota del Cuervo in Cuenca has proven in 2013 that his place in pro cycling is clearly amongst the best. An excellent season saw him shining from the beginning to the end: under the snow of the Vuelta al País Vasco, in the Critérium du Dauphiné -where he fought for a stage win in Grenoble- or, more especially, with a sensational summer.

Herrada was Valverde’s biggest helper. Wherever the Spaniard needed it, José was there. And when the race strategy wasn’t only being by his side, Herrada did not disappoint. His breakaways, constance and character left him only two places behind the best ten overall in that Vuelta a España. His future will still be Blue after extending his contract in 2013.
