GP Città di Camaiore

Amador, Lastras, Gadret all into main field at Camaiore, few seconds behind lead quartet as Ulissi (LAM) takes victory following late escape in Pitoro climb

It was a calm first outing for the Movistar Team riders in their Italian tournée during the 65th GP Città di Camaiore (UCI 1.1, 186km), held on Thursday in the province of Lucca over six climbs of the Monte Pitoro (3km, 8% average). A predictable race scheme saw the four-man early break being overtaken into the final lap by another quartet, with Ulissi (LAM), Montaguti (ALM), Arredondo (TFR) and Clarke (OGE) coming across the finish in that order by only three seconds over a charging peloton that started pursuing them after they broke away into the ascent.

Three riders from the telephone squad -Andrey Amador, Pablo Lastras and John Gadret- made part of that first bunch, strung out after the climbs which let them gain form leading up into the important races on the weekend. However, the best news from the day for the Blues came from Giovanni Visconti, who got together with his team-mates last night after some days in the Italian national team’s training camp. The former ‘tricolore’ even followed the race into the team car driven by DS José Luis Arrieta.
