Tour de Suisse (final stage)

Italian takes 10th in Tour de Suisse, race overshadowed by Izagirre's suffering; Basque still combative in Saas-Fee stage, searches for break ultimately made by Plaza

Portuguese Rui Costa (LAM) claimed his third consecutive Tour de Suisse overall win -two of them with the Movistar Team jersey- atop the climb of Saas-Fee (HC), following a very demanding, 156km climb with four rated ascents. The race was decided with a group attack, the one led by the Iberian alongside Frank (IAM) and Mollema (BEL), respectively second and third in the GC, to strip Tony Martin (OPQ) off the yellow jersey he had worn for eight days.

The trio reached down in Eischoll (Cat-1) what was left of the initial break, contested in the beginning by 18 riders including Blues Ion Izagirre and Javi Moreno, and eventually made by a courageous Rubén Plaza, who kept the wheel of the GC favourites until the foot of the last climb. In turn, Eros Capecchi -helped out until halfway through the Saas-Fee by Rojas- resisted well to keep (10th) a top-ten finish he achieves for the fourth time in his WorldTour appearances -after Deutschland (’08), Beijing (’12) and Pologne (’13)-.
