Arnhem Veenendaal Classic

Colombian youngster from Movistar Team makes decisive split in Arnhem Veenendaal Classic, yet struggles against biggest specialists, finishes in 10th spot

With practically four riders to try and earn a good result -Jasha Sütterlin was forced to abandon after just 50km with stomach problems, plus Iván Gutiérrez didn’t even take the start, ill-, the Movistar Team claimed another top-ten finish, the 201st in their successful season, in hostile land: the 29th Arnhem Veenendaal Classic, over flat, rainy, slippery roads, full of wind and stress over the 195km around the province of Gelderland.

Following exceptional teamwork by Pablo Lastras and big attention by Dayer Quintana and Enrique Sanz into any splits to protect Fran Ventoso’s chances, it was eventually the Colombian who made the decisive cut, a ten-man escape which Yves Lampaert (TSV) crowned with a late move, as Dayer, 10th across the finish, kept showing great adaptability to all terrains after his notable participation in last week’s Eneco Tour.
