Milano-Torino

Fine work by Movistar riders at Milano-Torino, first of their three final classics in Europe this season and prelude of Sunday's Il Lombardia

Diego Rosa (AST) won the 2015 Milano-Torino on Thursday after 186km including long flat stretches from the start near Lombardy's capital plus a steep finale, over two climbs of the Basilica di Superga (5km at 10% avg. gradient). The turqouise squad controlled intensely a race which the Movistar Team tackled with the strength of its freshest riders at this point of the season.

José Herrada, Ventoso, Capecchi and Sütterlin took responsibility into the final 50km to control the day's longest break and set Giovanni Visconti well up the first climb, later helped out through the run into the finish by Javi Moreno (18º) and José Joaquín Rojas, as well as Marc Soler, who briefly attacked in search for Leopold König (SKY).

In the end, Visconti, less of a climber than his rivals, struggled against consecutive moves from Villella (TCG), Majka (TCS) and Rosa, who outclassed the Polish rider and team-mate Fabio Aru (3rd). Giovanni finished in 8th place, confirming himself as one of the Blues' strenghts for this Sunday's Il Lombardia, final monument of the season and last stop of the UCI WorldTour.
