Blues close bittersweet Tour Down Under

Opening race of the UCI WorldTour comes to an end

Jesús Herrada finishes 13th overall in Australia, after Gorka Izagirre's strong podium chances get ruined by Thursday's crash. Ewan (ORS) claims fourth stage win, as Sütterlin shines again with 8th spot

Tasmanian Richie Porte (BMC) claimed overall honours in the 19th Tour Down Under, Sunday, after covering the final 90km circuit race in Adelaide's financial district. In turn, Caleb Ewan (ORS) completed a clean sweep of Australian victories by outsprinting the rest of the specialists again today. Jasha Sütterlin rounded off a very promising week, full of courage and strength, with an eighth place in the day.

The Movistar Team will head back to Spain on Monday – set to land on Tuesday before the 2017 team launch takes place in Madrid on Wednesday – with a bittersweet taste. The José Luis Arrieta-led group remains convinced that only last Thursday's crash avoided Gorka Izagirre contesting the overall podium, which he was already sitting on on Saturday before the Willunga stage. The Basque's second-place finish atop Torrens Hill Road was the best result for the Spanish outfit, which had Jesús Herrada as best GC performer in 13th place, the very same finish from 2016.
