Tour de Suisse (st. 3)

Quintana, Landa remain within top 20 overall in TDS after rainy stage three; final Cat-3 hill doesn't keep race from bunch sprint, with Colbrelli (TBM) victorious.

The rain was the big protagonist during stage three of the Tour de Suisse -182km between Oberstammheim and Gansingen, with five Cat-3 ascents along the route- as the Movistar Team riders tried to stay well protected and save energy before the four stages most suited to them, mountains starting on Tuesday with the Saanenmöser (Cat-2) climb just before Gstaad’s finish.

Well supported by Daniele Bennati, Colombian Nairo Quintana got into a very good position through the final hill of Hagenfirst (Cat-3), strung out by an acceleration from Peter Sagan (BOH). The ‘Cóndor’ of Boyacá later drove himself to safer positions into a field battling for the win into a tight sprint, where Sonny Colbrelli (TBM) narrowly bested Fernando Gaviria (QST, 2nd) and Sagan himself (3rd).

Mikel Landa also had a pretty uneventful day, and just like Nairo, the Basque remains within the top 20 overall, +36″ opn race leader Stefan Küng (BMC). José Joaquín Rojas and Andrey Amador also finished inside the main group.
