BinckBank Tour (st. 1)

Solid Movistar teamwork keeps Jasha Sütterlin near to top sprinters (22nd); German secures late start time at BinckBank Tour TT. Jakobsen (QST) wins, takes leader's jersey.

Heavy rain covered most of the route on stage one of the BinckBank Tour, a completely flat course (177km) between Heerenveen and a circuit in Bolsward, where local Fabio Jakobsen (QST) used his top speed to win.

The day’s racing offered many scares into the bunch on the wet roads, the Movistar Team happily able to stay out of trouble as they kept Jasha Sütterlin always into a good position in the bunch. Good teamwork from the likes of Bico, Arcas and Dayer Quintana allowed the German rouleur completing the stage in 22nd spot, securing a late start time for Tuesday’s ITT.

The 12.7km course in Venray is certain to leave its mark in a race where time bonuses -including the ‘Golden Kilometer’ (Race Guide)- before Saturday, when the first hilly stage will be tackled, could also be decisive.

— TT start times (Tuesday 14th, local – CEST): Carretero 14.06, Arcas 14.09, Sepúlveda 14.11, De la Parte 14.44, Dayer 14.56, Bico 15.25, Sütterlin 15.52.
