German rouleur just outside GC top-20 after strong pace in Flemish hills against big Classics specialists. Matthews (SUN) wins final stage; Mohoric (TBM) triumphs overall.

Slovenian champion Matej Mohoric (TBM) secured overall honours in the 2018 BinckBank Tour (UCI WorldTour) on Sunday by just five seconds. Aussie Michael Matthews (SUN) came incredibly close to ultimately besting Mohoric, his success at the cobbled uphill finish in Geraardsbergen (209km) putting the youngster’s success into jeopardy after the brutal, beautiful circuit around the mythical Kapelmuur and Bosberg climbs.

Jasha Sütterlin was again the best Movistar Team performer in the Belgian / Dutch stagerace. After the German’s unfortunate puncture on Saturday’s Limburg ‘mini-classic’, Sütterlin covered the final ‘hellingen’ within the top specialists -even into the top ten through the final climb of Denderoordberg-, and only lost contact with the selected main field at the finishing ascent. Jasha was 15th in the day and took 21st overall, hampered by the 47″ lost yesterday.
