Analysis

Following his ‘reentrée’ at Milano-Sanremo, Mikel Landa will be resuming his racing schedule at the Settimana Coppi e Bartali. The 2019 route has scrapped the final ITT featured in 2018, yet not its team time trial (13.3km), which will take to an end the grueling, opening double sector (Wednesday 27th) in Gatteo.

While the individual time trial is nowhere to be seen, there will be even more mountains in this race than ever, with up to three hilly stages in the Emilia-Romagna region. Two of them might become crucial: stage two (Thursday 28th), over the climbs of San Marino, Torriana and 3x Monte Tiffi (the last ascent, completed with 10km to go) and the showdown (Sunday 31st) with up to four climbs to the Valico di Fazzano (2km, 9.5%) in a circuit around Fiorano Modenese and Sassuolo.

There won’t be easy days, as stage three around Forlì (Friday 19th) also includes three climbs of the Rocca delle Caminate (3.4km, 6.5%), and even the flatter circuit around Crevalcore (Saturday 30th) had crosswinds and plenty of action last year. No room for respite!
