Analysis

It’s the second year for the Movistar Team riding the Belgian / Dutch hills, and they will be even more motivated than in 2018 to seek for a good result, having found no real reward to their courage and commitment in this early-season campaign in northern Europe.

The Amstel Gold Race will also mark the return to racing of the great Malgorzata Jasinska, who was forced to miss her beloved Ronde van Vlaanderen due to an elbow injury at Gent-Wevelgem. More power for an already strong squad, featuring Mavi García, Sheyla Gutiérrez and Aude Biannic as big weapons.

The 126.8km route is twisty, restless, really exciting, with up to 19 little climbs from which the last nine are covered into an interesting final loop around the Cauberg, the Geulhemmerberg and the Bemelerberg, identical to which Valkenburg has featured at national team events in recent times. With just 2km from the final Cauberg climb to the finish, the last ascent will be more than decisive.
