Colombian (12th) supported by Valls, Verona, Sepúlveda, Fernández into 60-man elite group alive through Cantal’s rain and climbs.

Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen (TDD) took the win at a reduced field’s sprint on stage one of the 2019 Critérium du Dauphiné, 142km from Aurillac to Jussac in the hills of the Cantal department, with up to five rated ascentd.

The rain and the steady pace in the peloton selected the field to only sixty riders, including five members from a solid Movistar Team.

Nairo Quintana, Rubén Fernández, Rafa Valls, Carlos Verona and Eduardo Sepúlveda were the representation from the Arrieta / Lastras-led squad in the peloton, which will face another lumpy route on stage two, including seven rated climbs en route to Craponne-sur-Arzon (180km).
