Belgian youngster from Lotto-Soudal, one of the biggest up-and-coming talents in cycling, succumbs to injuries sustained in serious crash during stage three.
The victory -after relegation of original first-place finisher Fabio Jakobsen (DQT)- of Pascal Ackermann (BOH) and the efforts by the Shalunov (GAZ), Kurek (POL) and Planet (TNN) breakaway to keep the bunch behind on stage three of the 2019 Tour de Pologne were overshadowed by the tragic passing of Bjorg Lambrecht (Lotto-Soudal), at just 22 years of age.
Sometimes, life is simply not fair. So, so young, with so many things yet to do. All of our thoughts are with the family, friends and @Lotto_Soudal team-mates of Bjorg Lambrecht. Rest in peace. https://t.co/7SoCxybBCo

The Belgian sustained a serious crash with 90km from Zabrze’s finish, a brutal incident which forced him to be transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Rybnik, where the doctors and surgeons were unable to save his life.
Lambrecht’s demise made any sporting effort irrelevant, the whole Movistar Team safe inside the peloton before Tuesday’s stage four, which will be neutralized -no real racing- and shortened (133km to Kocierz) in memory of Lambrecht and respect to his team-mates.
