Blues start building their roster for next season

Young British talent, 23, looks forward to continue his growth as a sprinter and progress together with the rest of the Blues as of next season.

The Movistar Team confirmed Monday that Gabriel Cullaigh (Holmfirth, GBR; 1996) has signed a two-year contract with Eusebio Unzué’s outfit, thus becoming the Telefónica-backed squad’s first confirmed addition to its roster for the 2020 season.

Cullaigh’s signing helps the Movistar Team increase its aspirations at sprint finishes, a speciality the Brit, a great rouleur, has steadily improved at during the last few years. In 2019, the current Team Wiggins rider notched up one stage victory in the Volta ao Alentejo, a race where he had already grabbed two wins last year.

Solid performances in Yorkshire (2019) and the Tour of Britain (2018), as well as in races of the UCI U23 Nations Cup or the 2018 GP Liberazione in Italy (3rd) and in top local races -he won the Rutland-Melton classic, with its famous off-road sections, in 2018- complete the palmarès of the third ever rider from the United Kingdom to race for the Blues in their 40-year history.
