Documentary series on Movistar Team

Netflix (a partir del viernes 28 de mayo) y Movistar+ (en entregas semanales, desde el domingo 30, en #Vamos) volverán a ofrecer una mirada única sobre el día a día de la escuadra 'telefónica', en torno a su temporada 2020.

The documentary ‘The Least Expected Day’ will have its Season Two launched on Friday 28th May. The six-episode series, again shown on Netflix and produced by Telefónica Broadcast Services (TBS) with direction from José Larraza and Marc Pons, covers the life of the Movistar Team, the most decorated, longest-standing squad in professional cycling. During the pre-launch event, held at Madrid’s Movistar Academy Magariños arena under strict prevention protocols, media and VIPs attending were able to watch the first two episodes and a trailer of the four which complete this year’s installment of a unique look inside the world of cycling.

The event, hosted by renowned Spanish journalist Mónica Marchante, featured Eusebio Unzué, General Manager of the Movistar Team; Rafael Fernández de Alarcón, director of Partnerships, Brand and Media for Telefónica S.A; as well as Juan Andrés García Ropero, ‘Bropi’, Sports head of Movistar+. After the projection, a talk was held with David Villa (former football player) and Antonio Lobato (journalist, F1 host on Movistar+) to comment on the documentary and the sport of cycling.

Eusebio Unzué expressed his “gratitude for this initiative, which has created so much awareness around cycling in general and our team in particular, still being supported by Netflix, Telefónica and Movistar+ with a second season. It was a challenging year for the whole world and also for our team, yet I feel like, from a sporting standpoint, at the important moments of the season, we showed tenacity and commitment to face those difficult situations, and from a communicative point of view, having already spent a year in front of the cameras, the team felt even more at ease with them. I think all people giving us a watch on Season Two will again find nothing but the truth about our sport and this team, with its good days and not so good.”

Rafael Fernández de Alarcón underlined “this series connects us in a really special way with cycling and its protagonists, makes us better feel their will to fight every day. It makes us really proud to associate the Movistar brand with this sport, which is an example of overcoming difficulties and working together as a team.”

Spectators around the world have been able to enjoy Season One of the series, available on Netflix, witnessing success and failure of the Movistar Team, with its strategy talks at the bus and the riders’ reactions at the end of stages.

During Season Two -filming started in August 2020, and ended in January 2021-, following a successful season for the Blues, the Movistar Team faces one of the most difficult years in its four-decade history, due to the pandemic and the departs of Carapaz, Quintana or Landa. A huge challenge lied ahead for youngsters Enric Mas and Marc Soler, together with the legendary Alejandro Valverde.

The second installment of the documentary series will be launched on May 28th, with fans able to watch on Netflix, available as part of Spanish TV platform Movistar+. Their own sports channel, #Vamos, will also offer the first chapter of this new season on Sunday 30th, at 2330 CEST. #Vamos will also broadcast the other five episodes, while showing, in the six days prior to the launch (May 24-29), all six parts of Season One.
