12 May 2026

Movistar Team and Iván Romeo have reached an agreement to extend the Valladolid rider’s contract with the Spanish squad through the 2030 season, strengthening his role as one of the key pillars of the team’s long-term project.

Iván Romeo, who joined Movistar Team in 2023 and renewed his contract through 2028 at the end of 2024, has now extended his deal for two additional seasons, reaffirming the mutual commitment to a long-term project.

At 22 years old, Romeo has established himself as one of the leading figures in Spanish cycling and one of the most promising young talents in the international peloton.

Born in Valladolid on August 16, 2003, the Spanish rider has shown steady progression since joining the team, excelling both in one-day classics and stage races.

Across the 2025 and 2026 seasons, Romeo has claimed six professional victories with Movistar Team. In 2025, he won a stage at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, a stage at the Critérium du Dauphiné, and the Spanish National Road Race Championship title. So far in 2026, he has secured both a stage win and the overall classification at the Vuelta a Andalucía, as well as a stage victory at O Gran Camiño.

Among his greatest achievements is also the Under-23 Time Trial World Championship title earned at the UCI Road World Championships, a performance that confirmed his enormous talent and future potential.

Iván Romeo:
“Extending my contract with Movistar Team until 2030 gives me great peace of mind, knowing that I’ll be able to keep progressing and improving the way I have over the past few years, which is ultimately what I’ve always wanted. I feel very comfortable with the team — everyone knows that and I’ve never hidden it. I think having four more years ahead of me is a big step forward, allowing me to continue developing with the same calm and confidence I’ve had so far.

What connects me most to the team is the mutual trust we have in each other. I also feel like a key piece in helping the team progress, and having my opinion heard is something I really value. I think we’re taking steps forward, and that makes me feel part of the project.

Looking ahead to the coming years, it may sound cliché, but I always say I want to be a little better every day, a little better each season. I’ve never had a year where I’ve gone backwards — I’ve always been very demanding of myself and focused on improving. It gets harder as the level rises, but I believe that if I continue on this upward path, it will lead me to compete for major races. That’s the next step I need to take: being consistent, bringing victories to the team, and becoming a reliable leader.”

Sebastián Unzué:
“Iván’s renewal through 2030 reflects the mutual trust and shared vision for the future that we’ve built over these years. He arrived very young, has grown within the structure, and has become a key figure both sportingly and personally.

For us, continuing to build this project together with him was a priority, and it was equally important for him. When both sides are so clear and confident, the decision comes naturally.

We are convinced that Iván’s best years are still ahead of him, and we’re excited that they will be with Movistar Team as we fight for the major goals we have set ourselves.”

With this extension through 2030, Movistar Team and Iván Romeo strengthen their shared commitment to the sporting development of one of the most promising riders in international cycling.
