Colombia is joining the ‘big leagues’ of cycling with a new event where its fans will be able to enjoy the big national group of talents that have taken the country to a very prominent position in the sport nowadays. The regions of Valle del Cauca, Cauca, Risaralda, Quindío and Caldas -heading northbound and towards the interior of the country- will hold the 1st edition of a race with two very distinguishable parts: three stages for climbers and three days for sprinters.
Palmira will be the venue for the three opening stages, which includes a circuit race in the city (100km, stage one, Tuesday 6th) and three mainly-flat routes before the race heads to Buga (Wednesday 7th + Thursday 8th). Stage four on Friday 9th February will bring the first two rated ascents: Cerrito (Cat-3) and Boquerón / El Tambo (Cat-3), end of a short journey (148km) bringing the race to the higher sections of Colombia.
Stage five (169km, Saturday 10th) will finish on a steep hill in Salento, a prelude of the final, most demanding race -184km from Armenia to Manizales, Saturday 11th-, with another climb of the Boquerón (Cat-3) plus the Torre Chipre (Cat-3) finish, a 19km ascent with final gradients near 9% at points.
