Dwars door Vlaanderen
182.8 Kilometers
Alejandro Valverde goes back to the Flemish classics, and is there to ‘stay’. Anticipating his long-awaited, maiden appearance at ‘De Ronde’, the World Champion from the Movistar Team will again be racing Dwars door Vlaanderen, an event deliberately shorter than the other cobbled races in the Belgian spring, in order to keep having those who will later opt to success in the second Monument of the season.
The 183km parcours features up to eleven hills and eight cobblestone segments. The difficulties will include some sections from the Tour of Flanders, such as the Taaienberg (132km), located in a very tough finale with ten ascents in barely sixty kilometers. The final climb, the Nokereberg (174km), is just eight kilometers away from the finish in Waregem.
