Analysis

One of the most prestigious and respected races outside the UCI Women’s WorldTour, the 2019 Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour reduces its length -six stages, down to seven- as it puts an end into the first tournée of stagerace for the Movistar Team (Burgos / Bira / Germany) before the big appointments with The Women’s Tour and the Giro Rosa.

Usually a race with many routes suited for sprinters, there will be two clear opportunities for a bunch finish -those in Gera (Tuesday 28th) and Gotha (Friday 31st)- and another two stages where a selection could happen at either tough starts or tricky finishes -those in Schleiz (Wednesday 29th) and Altenburg (Sunday 2nd)-.

The two stages remaining will be decisive: there will be a tough uphill finish in Dörtendorf (Thursday 20th), over the climb named after the legendary Hanka Kupfernagel; in turn, the 18km ITT in Meiningen (Saturday 1st) should be decisive, with a grueling 1km, 10% climb -follower by another 3km uphill- kicking off its route.
