Score

Eusebio Unzué’s organisation has won the Estella race eleven times, four of which happened when it was already called GP Miguel Indurain. Three of those were claimed by Alejandro Valverde, in 2014, 2018 and 2021, with one obtained by Ion Izagirre in 2016.

Estella (203.2km)

Analysis

The only race of the men’s UCI calendar entirely held in the Navarra region of Spain will open for the Movistar Team, the quintessential Navarra team, a month of April distributed between the pavé, the Ardennes and the north of the Iberian Peninsula, including eight days of fierce racing that start with the Estella event.

Four climbs of the short, tough Alto Ibarra, next to the Basílica del Puy which previously held the finish, will be the key -the last one will actually be completed just 1km from the end- to a race also featuring the ascents of Guirguillano (Cat-1), Lezaun (Cat-2), the not-rated Alto de Muru before each passage through the city and, most importantly, two climbs of Eraul (Cat-2), the last one strategically placed with just 10km from the end.
