Analysis

Even though Luxembourg had already offered the Movistar Team some moments of immense brillance over its history -the unforgettable 1992 Tour de France ITT or the 2021 Festival Elsy Jacobs (first-ever GC victory by the women’s squad)-, the Telefónica-backed squad had never been before at the start of the Great Duchy’s national men’s stagerace. It will be the men’s program’s penultimate stagerace in 2023, and a very demanding one with hilly terrain almost every day.

Other than the very-respectable 24km ITT -surely decisive- in Pétagne on Saturday 23rd, there will be two hill-top finishes -the opener in Kirchberg (Wednesday 20th) and the last finish in the capital (Sunday 24th)- plus a very tough Queen stage, over +3000m, towards the Château de Vianden on Friday 22nd, with three ascents of the Niklosberg.
