Analysis

In the middle of their busy schedule for the month of February, the Movistar Team will be crossing the north border to debut in the Tour de la Provence (UCI 2.1), a four-day French event holding only its 4th edition in 2019, and featuring a lineup with no less than nine WorldTour squads.

short ITT (9km) on really wind-exposed roads around Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (Thursday 14th) will open some early gaps into a race full of lumpy routes. The toughest stage will surely be day two (Friday 15th), with many demanding climbs before La Ciotat’s finish and a grueling final section through the beautiful Les Crêtes and a twisty, steep last descent.

Things won’t be easier on stage three (Saturday 16th), over six laps of a course around the Circuit Paul Ricard -venue for the Formula 1 French Grand Prix-, each of them including a 3km climb at 8%. To finish, another rolling course, will slightly gentler ascents, towards Aix-en-Provence (Sunday 17th).
