Analysis

Five years after their latest appearance to date -which even featured a stage win-, the Movistar Team goes back to the Tour of Austria, which has somewhat changed since those times. There’s neither long routes nor big passes before the mountain-top finishes, which makes for a closer race while the climbers still remain in command.

An explosive 2.5km prologue in Wels (Saturday 6th) will open a race whose toughest stages will be covered in the second half. Tuesday 9, the peloton will tackle the cols of Eibeggsattel (Cat-2) and Teichalm (Cat-1) near the finish of Frohnleiten (stage 3); Wednesday 10th, a very short (103km) stage four will take the riders to the top of the Füscher Torl (HC; 13km at nearly 10% avg.); and to wrap it up, on Friday 12th, the famous, grueling Kitzbüheler Horn, with 7.3km at 12.3%.
