Score

Eider Merino took part as an individual athlete at the 2018 race -still a national event-, claiming a 7th spot overall. It's important to note that Mavi García and Eider herself took overall honours in 2016 and 2017, while still not being part of the Movistar Team.

Analysis

The Movistar Team will be lining up for the first time as a group in 2019 at one of the Spanish women’s events which takes the most care of the talented national peloton. The 5th edition of the Vuelta a Burgos Féminas -an event featuring races for all elite, junior and under-17 riders, a move as significant as praiseworthy- opens its doors to top-ranked UCI teams with four short, thrilling stages mixing hill-top finishes and flat, sprinter-suited arrivals, surely quite interesting.

Despite Villadiego (Thursday 16th) probably being one of those easier finishes, the Alto de Tobar climb (Cat-3) should split the group quite a bit, located 17km from the end. A hilly finish in Poza de la Sal (Friday 17th), with 2km at 5%, will preceed the mountain-top one at the Alto de Rosales (Saturday 18th), probably decisive with its 3.8km of slopes up to 7%. The race will end in Villarcayo (Sunday 19th), with a series of ascents to Ojo Guareña (Cat-3), Bocos (Cat-3) and Retuerta (Cat-3).
