Analysis

The Clásica de Ordizia, the longest-standing Spanish event in the calendar (99 editions in 2022), starts a series of pre-La Vuelta events that most hardcore fans can recite by heart: Villafranca, San Sebastián, Getxo and Burgos, with Castilla y León added since last year.

The route of the Basque event is very well known by most competitors. it’s a 165.7km, two-loop course around Ordizia, with 5x the Alto de Abaltzisketa and 2x Altzo, added right before the main climb on the final laps.

As usual, the last ascent finishes with 9km to go, the last few meters of the race covered on a slight uphill. It’s usually down to a small group or even a solo rider at the end.
