Analysis

The Route d’Occitanie is a race which brings many great memories to the Movistar Team, a squad which will once again close here -with the only exception of the multiple National Championships across Europe the week after- its path towards the Tour de France. It’s an event quite close to home, with lumpy roads and a big mountain stage, over 4,000m elevation gain, that will surely decide the GC result.

Following a stage for the sprinters to L’Isle-Jourdain (Thursday 16th), the race will tackle on the final section of stage two (Friday 17th) a duo of inescrutable, gentle ascents: Tiergues (Cat-2; nearly 6km at 4%) and the finish in Roquefort (2km at 4.8%). A day later (Saturday 18th), the Queen stage will bring, as is tradition in this race, climbs not used by other professional events, often discovered here: Roque Jalère (Cat-1), Jau (Cat-1), Hares (Cat-1) and the finish up Les Angles / Balcère (Cat-3). The showdown on Sunday 19th, in Auterive, will again be for the fastest finishers.
