Analysis

– NOTE: One less lap will be covered, for a total of 171km, in application of the UCI’s Extreme Weather Protocol.

No major changes in 2024 for the Circuito de Getxo – except for its date. While the organisers, Punta Galea Txirrindulari Elkartea, were used to hold a traditional place in the calendar, with local festivities taking place on July 31st, the road races of the Paris Olympics forced the Basque event to move and be raced the day after the Clásica de San Sebastián. It thus becomes the last Spanish pro race before La Vuelta.

Starting from Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum, the race will then head towards the coast for five shorter loops, including the ascent to the finish in Txomintxu (800m, 7%) and the gentler Akarlanda / Quirón -5km of ups and downs, not too hard-, and two longer, harder laps in the second half. The decisive climb at the latter will be the Pike Bidea (2km at 9%), first crested with 73km to go then a decisive ascent with 15km remaining.
