Analysis

Once again, the Movistar Team will complete its stagerace campaign for 2024 in the Far East with the fifth edition of the Tour of Guangxi, a meridional autonomous region in China whose humidity and high temperatures will salute the sportspeople still able to push on at this time of the year in mid October.

It’s not a race of enormous elevation changes, with the sprinters holding the best cards for, in principle, the first four stages. There’s also chances for the attackers, though, as the finishes in Bama (Thursday 17th), after more than 200km, and Jingchengjiang (Friday 18th), through a tough Cat-2 ascent with 35km to go, could disrupt those bunch finishes.

The crucial stages will come over the weekend. On Saturday 19th, the peloton will finish atop the Nongla scenic area, 3km at 7% with maximum slopes of 11%. A day later (Sunday 20th), five ascents will be tackled to the tough Qingziushan KOM (1.4km at 11.7%), the last of which will be crested 19km before the last finish line in Nanning.
