Analysis

After a number of years held as a one-day event around Sant Cugat -one of the editions of the event was won for the ‘M’ by Katrine Aalerud; the last installment to date, in 2023, was won by current team member Claire Steels-, the Volta a Catalunya becomes a three-day stagerace, actually the last for the Movistar Team before the Giro d’Italia Women in July.

It will be quite a diverse series of scenarios: a lumpy opener (Friday 7th), with two Cat-3 ascents and some difficult hills on the way to Manresa; a tough, crucial mountain stage on day two (Saturday 8th), over Toses (Cat-1) and a La Molina (Cat-1) finish; and a showdown more suited to the sprinters (Sunday 9th), over another two rated ascents before a flat finish in Barcelona’s María Cristina avenue. All stages will be short, nothing over 100km.
