FIFTEEN YEARS ON THE BIKE. Laura Ruiz has enjoyed cycling from very young age -she got on her first bike at 5 years old- and went through all the steps needed to become a WorldTour competitor with the Movistar Team. A pupil of the San Emeterio family at the CC Meruelo -a development structure from Cantabria, north of Spain, which was created when Laura was only 1-, she offers her best signs of quality in 2022, when she becomes Spanish road race champion as a junior in Valladolid and climbs onto the podium of the Trofeo Binda.
IMPORTANT LEAP FORWARD. She leaves the Río Miera outfit in 2023 to join the Eneicat – CM – Seguros Deportivos team, located in León, whose University sees her taking up Animal Science studies, which she will combine with her Movistar Team career over the next few years. Involved in both books and biking, Laura will still have the strength to complete two WorldTour stageraces: the Vuelta a Burgos and, most importantly, La Vuelta Femenina.
GREAT ABILITIES. Praised by Annemiek van Vleuten, who recognises in her part of the future of Spanish cycling, so in need of references to replace the current generation in the near future, she feels confident at “mid-mountain courses, with some demanding while also being narrow and twisty, wherever some skills are required”. Most importantly, she makes it clear she’s “one who likes to ride with the team, help control different race situations and take the most out of every member”. At the Blue squad, she will have the opportunity to fully exploit her skills.
