Tour Méditerranéen kicks off from Balearic islands
07 February 2011

After their participation in the Trofeo Palma, the first race of the Spanish competitive calendar and the first outing by Movistar Team on European turf yesterday, eight riders from the Spanish team are travelling abroad to a completely different scenario.

Mauricio Soler, Carlos Oyarzun, Fran Pérez, David López, Ignatas Konovalovas, Ángel Madrazo, Javier Iriarte and Enrique Sanz depart this afternoon to the Tour Méditerranéen, a 2.HC, five-stage race over Southern France starting in the town of Maubec-Coustellet on Wednesday.

The blue expedition, led by Sports Director Yvon Ledanois, will land tomorrow on French soil after a complex moving, due to the vehicles being taken to the Iberian Peninsula from the Balearic islands, and is expected to take a training session in the evening as they arrive in their hotel. The race features four stages with not many mountainous complications before heading to the demanding Mont Faron in the decisive ride on Sunday, as the squad by Eusebio Unzué will look to do well in the finale of a race where the team has won three of the last four editions.
