Movistar Team farewells first elite season with the Italian falling leaves classics; Lastras biggest hopeful for the race

The 105th Giro di Lombardia, Le Foglie Morte -the race of the “Falling Leaves”, due to its situation in the autumn-, will be the last challenge on Movistar Team’s agenda for their maiden season on Saturday. The Italian race, the last monument of the European classicsseason, changes its final place from Como to Lecco and makes a lift to its parcours. The 241k route will be starting in Milano (11.00 CET) and opening fireworks in the second half of the race with the Colma di Sormano, 9k with slopes up to 12%, and the mythical climb of Madonna del Ghisallo, up to 14% and whose summit is just 45k from the finish. The short, complicated Salita di Ello, 9k from Lecco (17.00 CET), will get the 2011 UCI World Tour to an end.

It will be the last chance for Movistar Team to shine in and outstanding 2011, and with that aim, Yvon Ledanois will be directing a solid block led by Pablo Lastras, coming into his favourite race where he ranked 3rd in 2010 behind Philippe Gilbert and Michele Scarponi. The telephone squad’s captain will be joined on Italian soil by Rubén Plaza, Ángel Madrazo, Rui Costa, Imanol Erviti, Beñat Intxausti, Sergio Pardilla and Jesús Herrada.
