Prueba Villafranca

Movistar Team makes Prueba Villafranca's podium as best team of a race they contested until the very finish with Andrey Amador (4th) and David López

With barely no rest after the conclusion of the Tour de Francia, Movistar Team was back into competition today with the 89th edition of the Prueba Villafranca – Clásica de Ordizia in Gipuzkoa, Basque Country. The telephone squad went onto the podium of the race as Gorka Izagirre (EUS) snatched the victory after containing the charge of a nine-man group pursuiting until the end his move with Colombian Esteban Chaves (COL) after the final ascent towards Abaltzisketa, with just 10 kilometers from the finish.

At the leading group, David López attacked in the final part of the climb before being succeeded by Andrey Amador in the approach to the finish, a solo attack in the descent that would end up catching the lead two in the final straight, yet launching the sprint too soon and having to content himself with the fourth spot into a group that reached the trio with few meters from the end. Movistar Team will have its next race on Monday 31 -before that, nine of their riders will compete at the Olympic Games’ road race in London on Saturday- with the Circuito de Getxo on Biscay.
