Two top ten finishes for Movistar Team in Stresa with Ventoso (5th) and Visconti (9th) after a long break by Teruel with three other riders, including the day's winner Bob Jungels (RLT)
Bob Jungels (RLT) claimed a victory for Luxembourg at the 15th GP Nobili – Coppa Città di Stresa on Thursday, held on the banks of the Lago Maggiore in the Italian region of Piemonte after a long breakaway that started in the 11th kilometer of 187 proposed, with no less than four different circuits and two climbs through the town of Massino Visconti. The escape that launched Jungels to victory also included Edwin Ávila (COL), Marco Haller (KAT) and Eloy Teruel, who proved once again his combative spirit after signing for Movistar Team just months ago.
The Spaniard struggled into the second of the climbs, around 50k from the finish, with the four-man group reaching a dangerous eight minutes of advantage over a bunch where his team-mates started pushing shortly later. The solo attack by Jungels ended up taking on the back of the sprinters’ teams and allowing the escapee reaching the finish with almost one minute over the first echelon of favourites, which featured Sylwester Szmyd, Castroviejo, Amador, Madrazo and the squad’s two fast men: Fran Ventoso (5th) and Giovanni Visconti (9th). The pair will be joined in the next few hours by José Joaquín Rojas, as the former Spanish road champion replaces Szmyd for Milano-Sanremo, where rain and low temperatures have been forecast during the last few days.
