2013 Overview

Alejandro Valverde still means constance and fight. A reference for everyone who works with him, admires or loves him thanks to his effort in every single competition

It was a 2013 season less prolific when it comes to victories by the man from Murcia, yet more regular than ever. He never hid from February to October. Mallorca and Andalusia saw him victorious before a podium finish in the Clásica de Murcia and later in Catalonia, where a crash took him out of the race lead conquered in Vallter 2000. The most consistent rider in the Ardennes -2nd in the Amstel Gold, 3rd in Liège-, he came back in the Dauphiné to show that a Tour podium finish wasn’t a crazy goal for him.

He did made part of the provisional, overall podium for a full week, before the mechanicals en route to Saint-Amand-Montrond changed the course of events for the Movistar Team. Back on the podium for San Sebastián, he came into the Vuelta with a calculator on his hand after so many years of success, bringining two more successes to the Blues as 3rd in the GC and green jersey for a second time on a row. His bronze in the Worlds -five medals, an all-time record- and his 2nd in Lombardia rounded up a season where the ‘Bala’ was again one of the strongest riders in the world.
