Maiden international top-ten finish for Movistar Team

Polish veteran strong against some of world's best, into decisive break formed at Knokteberg; stays into pursuit group until finish as Van Dijk (SUN) wins solo.

It was a great race from the whole Movistar Team at the 7th edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen (UCI 1.1), final race for the UCI Women peloton before Sunday’s ‘De Ronde’, over 118km from Tielt to Waregem. Małgorzata Jasińska took a fantastic 7th place, the first top-ten finish in an event out of Spain for the Jorge Sanz-directed squad, after being able to keep up the pace of some of the world’s best classics specialists into a break starting at the Knokteberg climb, 35km from the end.

Following up with an earlier move from Gloria Rodríguez, the veteran Polish rider got into a selected first group including Van Vleuten (MTS), Pieters (DLT), Moolman (CBT), Bujak (BTC), Niewiadoma (CSR), Mackaij (SUN) and eventual winner Ellen Van Dijk (SUN), who put up with the climbs and jumped away with just 5km to go to claim the day’s honours.

Jasińska was able to finish inside that group to crown a superb work from the Blues, mostly of them into the main field at the end of a day soaked in rain and in very cold temperatures in Belgium.
