Giro Rosa (st. 8)

Eider and Mavi - supported by solid Movistar Team - remain within top-15 overall before decisive, legendary final weekend in Giro Rosa.

A three-woman break, containing Lucinda Brand (SUN), Elisa Longo Borghini (WHT) and European champion and eventual day’s winner Marianne Vos (WAD), held off a late charge from the GC group to succeed on stage eight of the 2018 Giro Rosa -126km between San Giorgio di Perlena and Breganze, under intense heat-, covering the tough hill of Fara just nine kilometers from the end.

Following attacks from Aude Biannic and Malgorzata Jasinska into the first half of the stage, trying to get into a break which did not stick, the two Blues, together with Lorena Llamas, focused their efforts on protecting Eider Merino and Mavi García. The two Spaniards completed the last climb into a group of about 25 riders, which crossed the line 23″ behind the winner.

Another great effort by the whole Movistar Team -the Spanish outfit still 2nd in the team GC- allows Eider and Mavi remain within the first 15 overall, prior to the Queen stage of the Italian Grand Tour, finishing atop the legendary Monte Zoncolan (104km).
