2018 World Championships in Austria

Oliveira, Soler, Sepúlveda, García to compete on Tuesday and Wednesday at time trials bringing first two main rainbow jerseys into play at Innsbruck.

Following their sixth place at the men’s team time trial and the 29th spot achieved by Jaime Castrillo at the under-23 individual time trial, four Movistar Team riders will be defending their national teams’ colours at the elite ITTs to be held at the Innsbruck World Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The fourth-placed finisher in Bergen (2017), Nelson Oliveira (15.29’30); Marc Soler (14.49); and Eduardo Sepúlveda (14.52) will be tackling the elite men’s ITT Worlds on Wednesday, a very demanding 52.5km course from Rattenberg to the Tirol’s capital. Halfway through the parcours, after 30km of nearly endless flat straights, the riders will be facing the climb from Fritzens to Gnadenwald: five kilometers at 7% average gradient, which will determine most of the result and most notably the energy left for the second half of the race, with a long descent and some ups-and-downs before the finishing line.

A day before them, this very Tuesday, Spanish ITT Champion Mavi García (15.23’30) will be our country’s only representative in the women’s ITT. In their case, it will be a 27.8-kilometer course to award the medals, exactly the same route as in the under-23 race on Monday, with a flat first half followed by two gentle climbs in the second part.
