Telefónica-backed squad present at all five elite Worlds races, including Sunday’s inaugural mixed relay. Valverde set to defend his rainbow jersey on Sunday 29th, with eleven Blues lining up in the event.
Twenty-one Movistar Team members will take part with their national teams at the five elite races of the 2019 UCI Road World Championships, to be held across Yorkshire (Great Britain) on Sunday 22nd – 29th September.
The new mixed relay -two TTTs, three men / women each, for a total 28km, Sunday 22nd– will be the first battle for six of the Blues: Aude Biannic (FRA), Jasha Sütterlin (GER), Mavi García, Sheyla Gutiérrez, Lourdes Oyarbide and Lluís Mas (ESP). Lourdes and Lluís will be back at the individual time trials (30km for the ladies, on Tuesday 24th; 54km for the men, on Wednesday 25th), also featuring Gloria Rodríguez (ESP), Eduardo Sepúlveda (ARG) and one of the Movistar Team’s medal chances: Nelson Oliveira (POR).
After the ITTs, the final weekend of the event will bring the road races, with 149km at the women’s race starting in Bradford, Saturday 28th, and the 280km elite men’s event on Sunday 29th, from Leeds to the finish of all Worlds races, Harrogate.
Eight will be the ladies to carry the Movistar Team on Saturday -García, Gutiérrez, Oyarbide, Alicia González and Eider Merino (ESP), Biannic (FRA), Malgorzata Jasinska (POL) and Paula Patiño (COL)-, with twelve men called up for Sunday’s race: Oliveira (POR), Sütterlin (GER), Sepúlveda (ARG), Nairo Quintana, Carlos Betancur (COL), Richard Carapaz (ECU), Andrey Amador (CRC) and four Spaniards, with Marc Soler, José Joaquín Rojas, Imanol Erviti and defending champion Alejandro Valverde.
