Analysis

A condensed, exciting race, and with a homage. The Tour de Pologne is back with its 77th edition, resisting against the pandemic and after a difficult 2019 event due to the loss of Bjorg Lambrecht, with a route honouring the late pope John Paul II, a key figure for the recent history of the country and whose places in Poland will be visited during the race.

It might be just five days, due to the constraints of the post-covid calendar, yet no maor features are missing from previous years. The sprinters will have three clear winning chances -at Katowice (Wednesday 5th), Zabrze (Thursday 6th) and Krakow (Sunday 9th)-, with a hillier, not-so-easy finish on Friday 7th (Bielsko-Biała) and a decisive, Queen stage in the Tatr Mountains on Saturday 8th, with the climbs of Gliczarów / Ściana Bukovina and Rzepiska peaking up at over 20% gradients.
