Challenge Mallorca

Belgian youngster De Lie (LTS) wins Trofeo Playa de Palma - Palma as Telefónica-backed squad works hard in finale, runs out of chances in bunch sprint.

One victory, obtained by Valverde in Andratx on Saturday, and several podium appearances over the entire 31st Challenge Mallorca were the valuable overview for the Movistar Team at the end of the Spanish season’s opener. The final event, the Trofeo Palma on Sunday, saw 19-year-old Belgian neo-pro Arnaud de Lie (LTS) taking the win at the inevitable bunch sprint.

No prize was obtained by the Telefónica-backed squad today, though, after solid work from Lluís Mas, Hollmann, Barta, Lazkano, Serrano and Torres for Iván García Cortina ended up with no room for the Spaniard on the sprint. 15th was the Asturian’s result over the line, as Mas climbed onto the podium as Most Active rider of the day.
