Analysis

It’s a year of significant changes for the Circuito de Getxo. The first one is an emotive one: 2019 will mark the first-ever Otxoa brothers ‘Memorial’, in beautiful remembrance from the organisers S.C. Punta Galera of former pro rider Ricardo and also Javier, who passed away eleven months ago. The second one is an evolution of the race’s image: its circuit, previously more sprinter-suited and entirely on urban roads, will now go through wider, more open terrain, with some hills turning the race quite harder.

The new route comprises eight laps of 24km each, for a total 196 kilometers. Getxo, Leioa, Erandio and Loiu will be the municipalities holding a race where the decisive climb to Arkotxa (800m at 7%) will be followed at each lap by the ascent to Unbe / Alto Quirón, a series of ups and downs for 100m of added gain. After that, the race will return to the Nervión ria and more known roads, through the Arriluze mull, the Ereaga beach, the tough Txomintxu slope and the finish in front of the City Council.
