Analysis

The opening weekend of professional cycling in Flanders will be coming to its end on Sunday 3rd March with a race usually contested by sprinters, yet not exempt from offering demanding routes.

The Movistar Team will be making its debut, just like it happened a day before at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, at the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne classic, whose 201km includes 13 hills -only four of them over cobblestones- and a final circuit ready for the sprinters’ ‘trains’ to make up any gaps the classics specialists might have been able to gain in the section prior.

The Kruisberg (104km), the world-famous Oude Kwaremont (116km) and the short Nokereberg (151km), the last ascent on the programme, will make room for a long flat section back to Kuurne, where the riders will cover two laps of a 15.3km circuit between the town giving name to the race and another protagonist of the Flemish spring, Harelbeke, which we will visit in 25 days’ time.
